A rare monkey virus has infected workers at the Sir Frederick Banting Research Centre in Ottawa. Health Canada is not divulging the number of infected, but at least 68 of the 81 workers had blood tests in late July to determine if they had contracted Simian Foamy Virus. A test in May indicated two of 46 workers had the virus. Health Canada is awaiting results of more extensive tests. Fewer than 20 human cases of Simian Foamy Virus have been documented worldwide.
