EOS 3 - Metering questions

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

When using eye-controlled auto focus (EF function 13=0) and mode set to "Partial Metering", is the metering centered at the selected focusing point, or is it at the center of the viewfinder as the manual states ? Also, if focus is manual, do all metering modes take their readings at the center of the viewfinder ? And last question-does anyone use the "centerweighted metering" mode anymore ? It seems to be a fall back of the older, fully manual camera days when that was the only mode available. Thanks for you replys.

Hi Bruce !!! you should keep in mind that Focusing goes separate road than Light metering. When using eye-controlled focus, or selected focus point, or manual focus, the metering method does not change. The only flaw of this is in the case that you are doing manual focus, and for some reason you do not focus the image, in that case the metering of the fotometer is not completely accurate. Remember that your camera has (I think) 35 metering points, and only 7 focus points. So in partial metering or center metering, you don't affect the focusing method, and it is not affected by the metering method When you do manual focus, the camera may still do partial, centered, or compensated metering...

as the third question regards, the metering method you may use, depends on the image you wanna obtain. I sometimes use center metering whit manual focus....

If I can be of any help, e-mail me... it doesn't botter me...

Best regards...
