What music are ya into lately?

I, myself, picked up "Buddha Bar III" from Borders the other night. It's a compilation of trance/meditation/ambient kinda spiritual. Two tracks in particular - "sacral nirvana" and "golden lotus". The former is by Oliver Shanti and Friends, and the latter by John Kaizan Neptune. Both of which you can look up and download on KaZaA.com. Bee I think you would really enjoy it. I also downloaded some gregorian chants, which I've enjoyed. I guess I've got this whole spiritual/peace kinda thing goin on. Must calm the soul. =)

When you're looking at me, you're looking at country. But it's got to be classic country, not these new people like Garth Brooks (the anti-Hank).

Garth is new?! I happen to love Garth Brooks. Sorry Peter.

Cin: If you're looking for "calm the soul" stuff, Tony O'Connor [I never heard of him either] has a CD entitled Rain Forest Magic. It's pretty much just a relaxed journey deep into a natural wonderland with all of nature's sounds.

Country music singers have been a real close family,
But lately some of my kinfolks have disowned a few others and me.
I guess its because I kind of changed my direction.
Lord I guess I went and broke their family tradition.

They get on me and want to know
Hank, Why do you drink?
Why do you roll smoke?
Why must you live out the songs that you wrote?
Over and over everybody makes my predictions.
So if I get stoned, I'm just carrying on
An old family tradition.

I am very proud of my daddy's name
All though his kind of music and mine ain't exactly the same.
Stop and think it over.
Put yourself in my position.
If I get stoned and sing all night long its a family tradition.

So don't ask me, Hank why do you drink?
Hank, why do you roll smoke?
Why must you live out the songs that you wrote?
If I'm down in a honky-tonk some ole slick's trying to give me friction.
I said leave me alone, I'm singing all night long
It's a family tradition.

Lord I have loved some ladies
And I have loved Jim Beam
And they both tried to kill me in 1973.
When that doctor asked me,
Son how did you get in this condition?
I said, hey sawbones, I'm just carrying on an ole family tradition.

So don't ask me,
Hank why do you drink?
Hank, why do roll smoke?
Why must you live out the songs that you wrote?
Stop and think it over,
Try and put yourself in my unique position.
If I get stoned and sing all night long,
Its a family tradition!

Unk, Junior's not bad. Of course I was referring to Senior.

-- Peter Errington (petere7@starpower.net), October 13, 2001.

Of course, otherwise you would have said Hank Jr.

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeeD@yahoo.com), October 13, 2001.

Yah that Hank Jr is one-a-them "new" ones too

heehee

Thanks Anita. I'll check it out. I have some reiki, which is the running streams and birds chirping stuff. It was all very nice, but it just wasn't hitting the spot. I was looking for something with I guess Asian overtones. This buddha bar has this and also some persian, and even some aboriginal sounding stuff. It's very haunting and deep. btw I've always enjoyed arabic music, dunno why. Oh, my mother had a Jordanian boyfriend whom us girls were crazy about. I must have been 5 years old. He played this kinda stuff. Maybe that's why.

Music... the medium to calm the savage beast... or to rile them up...

I have really started liking the sounds of Brian Setzer and his band, BUT... my taste in music is HUGE!

Everything from Vivaldi to AC/DC... Or would that be the otherway around? (snicker)

scratchin' an itch...

Afghan Whigs, and that's no crappy pun or joke or smartassm.

Check out '1965'.... the Royal Orleans Revue/Orchestra sits in. Astonishing album; not for the faint.

Little Feat. What's become of those fine folks.

Also, I am the proud possessor of I believe the only album that Root Boy Slim ever cut. It has all his great numbers - Boogie til You Puke, Heartbreak of Psoriasis (sp?), etc. In a fit of insane generosity, I tried to give it to my brother when he was visiting me. Noble soul that he is, he wouldn't hear of accepting such a precious gift, and snuck it out of his suitcase before departing.
