Steamed Yeast Bread?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Wet rainy day and I had tv on for little bit. Got interested watchin info commercial about some expensive steam cooker. They showed it baking a regular packaged cake mix cake minus the shortening. Got me to thinking about old quick baked breads usually heavy with dried fruit where you put dough in a coffee can and put coffee can in a lid covered simmering water bath for couple hours to cook. So then looked on web for steamed bread recipies and found the quick breads but also chinese steamed breads that use yeast to rise. Most were roll size with meat center and steamed in bamboo steamer for 10 to 20 minutes.

Finally my question, could a regular loaf of whole wheat yeast bread be "baked" in a steamer? and how long would it take? Think the pound size coffee can quick breads took around 2 hour. Simular deal with yeast bread in pound coffee can? Anybody ever try this and how does it taste?

The usual steamed bread is Boston Brown Bread. Recipes are easy to find.

Not to be rude at getting any answer, but Boston Brown Bread is a "QUICK BREAD" using baking powder. I am asking if anybody has any experience steam cooking a "YEAST" bread. Thanks anyway.

Guess I need to slow down a little when reading questions, huh?
