But enjoy the company of the rest of our "family" you can meet here and we can try again.

Of course you will need to email me for the password, heehee.

And no, I'm not going to close this forum, but since I am unarmed here due to the software I cannot kill the spammers, though I sure would like to.

Answers

BTW, I am working 6-7 days a week right now, so if I don't get right back to you be patient.

Also, I would prefer a REAL email address, hopefully not Sqawk@LL.com.

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeed@yahoo.com), October 13, 2001.

And I am gonna block this thread so that blackout dickhead cannot screw it up.

-- Debbie (dbspence@pobox.com), October 14, 2001.

Presto, chango! We have a reply button once again. A < /style> tag fixes it.

And how did I insert the style tag if there was no reply button ? .... That's for me to know and you to find out. Hee hee.

Unk can probably see what I did.

* * *

But the real issue is this: it's not so much your technical knowledge. It's how you SPIN your technical knowledge.

Take the problem of folding a map. When you yourself can't figure out how to fold a map, why, it's beneath you to know how. When it appears no one else around BUT you knows how to fold a map, it's an esoteric mystery known only to the inner circle!

Bump for those who want the other forum. Which was, of course, the point of this thread.

-- Debbie (dbspence@pobox.com), October 14, 2001.

Note to self:

Do NOT mess with Debbie

-- (whoknows@who.cares), October 14, 2001.

Very impressive, Deb.

Will you be performing in Las Vegas soon?

I hear magicians can make a bundle.

-- Sweet Soul Music (Sam@and .Dave), October 14, 2001.

She'll be performing on the Las Vegas web site. 8^)

And why is it Las Vegas but Los Angeles?

-- David L (bumpkin@dnet.net), October 14, 2001.

Yo no hablo espanol, pero...in the Spanish language nouns are either masculine or feminine, singular or plural. The 'las' and 'los' must agree with the nouns, in those cases 'Vegas' and 'Angeles', which are both plural, 'Vegas' being also feminine and 'Angeles' also masculine. Ootherwise it would be 'La Vega' and 'El Angel'.

Then again, I don't know sh*t on a shingle about English so I really shouldn't be hacking up a foreign language.

-- Ricardo (living_in_interesting_times@hotmail.com), October 14, 2001.

Not to Debbie, but to debbie@rules, I bet Z does know what Debbie did, just as he knows about you embed(ing) the source for http://192.41.19.35/beavbutt/monkey.wav, made it hidden=(true) AUTOSTART(ed) it=(TRUE) and guess we are lucky you didn't set it to LOOP=(false). By hey what do I know?

-- Cherri (jessam6@home.com), October 14, 2001.

Cherri, I beg to differ. Most anyone here is probably literate enough to view the source on this page and see what I did. But, they've probably also noticed that when they view this page's source, they can't tell what Debbie did. But, of course, you knew that, didn't you?

-- (Debbie@you.rule), October 14, 2001.

Thanks, Ricardo. Having taken a foreign language (French) in high school, I might have thought of that.

-- David L (bumpkin@dnet.net), October 14, 2001.

De nada, David. :)

-- Rich (living_in_interesting_times@hotmail.com), October 14, 2001.

Holy Shamolies what a line of bullshit. CSS can not put the contribute button back. Spence has to have admin access. Figgures since Kritter bugged out a long time ago.

-- (bl@ck out .artiste), October 15, 2001.

The contribute button wasn't "put back." It was never gone. Making it reappear doesn't require admin access, just an understanding of how Lusenet works.

-- (One@WhoWas.There), October 15, 2001.

Cherri, you.rule is right, View Source does not show what I did.

Las Vegas here I come... ;-)

Blackout.... keep guessing. Naah, I don't have admin access.

-- Debbie (dbspence@pobox.com), October 15, 2001.

I am calling you a liar. I know CSS backwards and forwards and it can NOT do that. I do not know what game you are playing bit I am not buying it. You had better come clean.

-- (black@out.artiste), October 15, 2001.

All she did was put an ending style tag on. I don't know what you're so freaked out about. Anyone can do it.

-- (One@WhoWas.There), October 15, 2001.

Bullshit. You can not just add an /style when the contribute button is missing. Did you read that thread by uncle up there saying he blocked this thread? That can only be done from the admin section. She is lying. What you got to say about it uncle?

-- (black@out.artiste), October 15, 2001.

*I* had better come clean - to someone whose email address is black@out.artiste ? That's funny...

You may know CSS better than I do - you just aren't thinking outside the box. (much as I hate that expression)

-- Debbie (dbspence@pobox.com), October 15, 2001.

Linux or Unix? I don't believe a technical writer has that ability.

-- (black@out.artiste), October 15, 2001.

Anyone who gives a shit stand up. Put up or shut up Doodah. Admit it you are a fucking coward who cant stand the heat. You WILL close this forum. It is just a matter of time. LIAR.

-- Maria (Anon@a.mouse), October 15, 2001.

First of all, I doubt that's Maria. It's hardly her style.

Well, anyway. Enough is enough. It was fun while it lasted.

I don't have admin access. I used different browsers till one worked. Opera was able to work around and render correctly the incomplete code in those wrecked threads. I used IE 5.5 and Netscape 4.75, respectively, to try and read those threads and both of them choked on the code. Both are relatively new, standard browsers and neither worked - but Opera did. Irony of ironies, eh? Opera gave me a reply button, so I just used it.

I said Unk would be able to put 2+2 together because the server logs sometimes identify basic things, like type of BROWSER you use on a post.

Well, Unk you have probably not even seen this nonsense what with your busy schedule. Anyway, the last thing I want is for my fun and games to turn against you.

Cheers!

-- Debbie (dbspence@pobox.com), October 16, 2001.

I had posted after he closed one down, but it didn't show here but did in source. But that was because I had been in the process of writing a reply and just used my back button until I had the submit button again. I didn't notice the style tag until it was to late, although I did try to close some other tags. Wasn't sure I should play around too much because I figured I might mess it up worse. If the person who asked me about how the dyslexia worked to my advantage still wants my answer, just let me know...

-- Cherri (jessam6@home.com), October 16, 2001.

It's even simpler than that. The Contribute button is just a piece of code. If you don't have one, you can just make one. Like this:

Here's another one:

This second button will actually contribute an answer to a different post. You don't need any special browsers or access to do this. Just check the source and you'll see.

-- (One@WhoWas.There), October 16, 2001.

Very kewl...

But that still would not have solved the dilemma I faced when the threads had NO reply button.

While I could create buttons till the cows come home, I could not POST them to the thread.

A button, as you point out, is just a piece of code. In order to post ANY code, I must ALREADY HAVE a button, provided by the script and rendered correctly on screen.... no?

-- Debbie (dbspence@pobox.com), October 16, 2001.

You are correct, you could not post anything to this thread from this thread if there was no Contribute button. But remember what I did with the second button up above. It points to a different thread. So, if I can create a button on this thread that points to a different thread, then it follows that I (or you or anyone, for that matter) can create a button on a different thread that points back to this one. I usually use the HTML Test Forum for this.

-- (One@WhoWas.There), October 16, 2001.

OK, now I see what you were getting at.

I L O V E it... Awesome maneuver... and so simple.

Things that make you go, "Of course! Why didn't I think of that??"

Just pondering on this... Phil *could* have blocked posting to a different thread from the current one, but instead he allows it. Why, I wonder. Could be cuz this software has so little safeguard against screwing up your HTML or script and losing the reply button, which happens SO easily when you do things like paste the source from some other page into the Answer box. I know I destroyed a thread or two before I learned to test them first.

With this, you have a way to recover. (Just guessing about his reasoning, but it makes a certain amount of sense.)
