Bankrupt Lechters Closing All 315 StoresHARRISON, N.J. (Reuters) - Lechters Inc. (Nasdaq:LECH - news), a housewares chain that filed for bankruptcy protection in May, on Friday said it would close all of its 315 stores and liquidate its inventory.
A potential buyer was found for the chain, but a deal could not be reached, the company said.
Other retailers, including Montgomery Ward & Co. and Ames Department Stores Inc. (Nasdaq:AMES - news) were unable to weather the current U.S. economic downturn and also filed for bankruptcy.
