ice climbing in the Tatra Mountains

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Mountaineering : One Thread

Hello nice people,

I would like to spend a week this winter in the Tatras, in order to do some mountain skiing and ice climbing. The trouble is that I live in France , so it is really not easy to find information. So I am looking for : Topos and maps for both ice climbing and skiing. Some explanation about the rules (it is a national park) Any other information (has already someone been there??) Thank you!!!

Katy

The High Tatras are magnificent. I've been there once skiing, long ago, and hiking, threee days ago. Groovy! If you buy a map (Slovakian edition, Vysoké Tatry, 1:50000, No113.) you'll see that all of the mountain paths above about 1700m are *officially* closed from 1. Nov. to 1. July. As far as I know, if the Guards of the national park catch you, you can get a fine of 10-50 USDollars, approx. Have fun!

hallo! I have been in tatras two years ago; here i have known a guide who helped me to find (SUMMER)climbing routes notwithstanding the lots of rules that forbid climbing in most of Tatras mountains; he was kind and his draws were exact and detailed. He told me he could help me about ice climbing - you can get help too. If you are interested, mail me and i will help you in contacting him. Gianluca - Udine - Italy
