Anthrax strikes tabloid that published incendiary stories on bin Laden's alleged drug and sex problems

The Washington Post reports that American Media Inc. -- the company that publishes the Globe, the Sun and other supermarket tabloids from offices in Florida -- has been incendiary in its coverage of suspected terrorist Osama bin Laden.

"Bin Laden the Butcher" was one of the headlines in this week's issue of the Globe, The Post notes, over a story that asserted that bin Laden is addicted to opium and is "a shameful hypocrite, condoning gang-rape, drinking and carousing by his military captains."

In an Oct. 2 story headlined "The Face of Evil," a former CIA agent was quoted as saying bin Laden's rage toward Americans is rooted in being ridiculed by an American woman years ago for having underdeveloped sexual organs.

On Friday, extremely rare inhaled anthrax poisoning took the life of Bob Stevens, 63, photo editor of the Sun, whose offices are in the same building as the Globe's. On Monday Florida health officials announced that a second Sun employee was .

The National Enquirer, the National Examiner, the Star and the Weekly World News, all American Media publications, are located in the same building as the Globe and the Sun. The offices are about 10 miles from where hijackers Mohamed Atta and Marwan Al-Shehhi lived
