Hi, Would like any suggestions regarding keeping the water tank 2000gal. {plastic?} from freezing this winter. I'm at 9200ft. in the Colorado rockies. I priced straw. my first choice at 5$ a bale in this area. Will fiberglass insulation work wrapped in black plastic?

First, WOW $5/bale for straw? I get upset when it gets to $1.50. I doubt the straw or firberglass insulation will be enough by itself to keep it from freezing. Bury it down near the frost line, most like not a cost effective choice if your digging into the rockies. Adding a tank heater along with the straw or fiberglass my be your only alternative. Not cheap but effective.

the mag had something for this not oo long ago,, can you build some type of greenhouse over it, using a swing set or somthing, insulate 3 side,, use windows or clear plastic for the other to allow the sun to come in. If you dont have some type of heat, just insulating it wont last long.
