Chickens at fair : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hi! Just wanted to say thanks for all the info yall gave me a couple of weeks ago. We were trying to get ready for the local fair (Junior poultry division) and had lots of questions. Well, we just got back and all three children's chickens placed 1st in there division. It totally blew our minds (since we had no idea what we were doing). At first, I thought maybe everyone got a ribbon, but then I noticed not everyone had ribbons and some had 2nd or 3rd place ribbons. This was totally unexpected! We were going more just for a learning experience! The kids are soooooooo excited!!!(So is Mom) Thought I just let you know how well your advise paid off! Thanks again!!!!! Lisa B.

That almost sounds like exactly what happened to us. My 7 year old daughter joined the clover buds in 4-H and entered 2 sets of chickens in the county fair. We got one first place and one second place, and we didn't know what we were doing either. It was a lot of fun. So I send my congradulations to you also.

Congratulations to your kids for their wins. Even though you may not have known a lot about showing, you must have known quite a bit about caring for your poultry or they would not have won the ribbons. Even a well-bred animal will not win if it is not fed properly, cleaned and overall has a healthy appearance. Give the kids full credit for the work they did on that part because it definitely contributed to their success. (Clap, clap, cheer, cheer!!!)

Thanks for letting us know so we could be happy with your family! It's so much fun!!!And yes, I enjoy it every bit as much as the kids. If I may gloat again, we were Grand Champions last month at the 4H poultry fair.
