Keeping Rice Warm

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

I am taking a meal to feed our church staff tomorrow that includes rice. How can I keep the rice warm? Can I cook it in a crockpot? If so, how long? Thanks for the help. By the way, I am making instant brown rice, for times sake.

Ivy-I don't uasually cook rice in my slow cooker-I have a nifty rice cooker/steamer that someone gave me, but yesterday, I made stuffed peppers with ground beef -rice mixture, and the precooked rice stayed nice and warm and fluffy in the cooker on slow for about four hours while peppers cooked, and I make dressing in Crockpot and keep it warm so yes you can keep rice warm in crock pot turned low.

My slowcooker book gives this recipe-

! tsbl Butter 4 cups conveted long grain rice, uncooked 10 cups water 4 tsp salt

Pour rice, water and salt into greased crockpot, cover, cook on high2- 3 hours or until rice is tender. Stir occasionally.

Serves 10

I hope this helps-K.

I cook mine in the microwave and then you could keep it hot with the crockpot? For the microwave, to do one cup rice and 2 cups water it takes 15 minutes. of course for a large amount it will take longer but i don't know how long.
