I have a recipe for my bread machine that calls for instant potatoes. My kids and husband love this recipe, but I would like to use real potatoes since we grow so many of them ourselves. Rather than experiemnt and waste the results, does anyone have a recipe with real potatoes or successfully substituted mashed potatoes for the instant? Thanks!

Some years ago, the Country Woman magazine published a recipe for potato rolls (crescent shape) that used leftover mashed potatoes. I used to make them every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas but I lost the recipe. I would love to have it if anybody happens to have that magazine. I have no idea what issue it was.

Go to the Google search engine. Type in 'potato bread or rolls.' You get several sites listing recipes using potatoes to make a dough. Happy baking. Stef.

Here is the bread machine recipe:For 1 regular loaf, add these ingredients to the machine in the order listed:
1 1/3 cups water 2 TB powdered milk 2TB shortening 2 TB sugar 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1/3 cup dry potato flakes 3 1/2 cups white flour 1 1/2 tsp. yeast.
Use regular setting. I have used 1/2 white unbleached, and 1/2 wheat mixed together with a little more yeast. Also have substituted butter for shortening.
