Banana icing

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

Does anyone have a recipe or know how to go about concocting a banana icing? I remember the banana cake with the banana icing from Sara Lee and the one I used to get in my school cafeteria was just delicious. I haven't exactly looked for a recipe and I'm not exactly creative in the kitchen so I thought I'd ask here. Thanks in advance. :o)

I wonder if you make a butter cream or crisco icing and add banana flavoring if it would be like what you want. I have banana flavoring in a bottle that is very intense. Probably 1/2 of a teaspoon would flavor a batch of icing. The way I make icing is: 1/4 cup water, 1/4 cup Crisco or softened butter and enough powdered sugar to make it the consistency you desire. Beat the water and Crisco together then add flavoring. (vanilla or banana!) Then add powdered sugar until it is as thick as you like. I double this if I am baking a birthday cake, so I will have enough to decorate with.
