Why do "U.S. officials" always have to be the authority on everything, even in other countries?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unk's Wild Wild West : One Thread

Fucking busybody bastards.

Russia AND Israel are investigating the possibility that the downed jetliner could have been a terrorist attack. They are being cautious, for their OWN safety.

But US officials are already claiming adamantly that it was definitely NOT a terrorist attack, that it was definitely shot down by Ukranian military, who adamantly deny that possibility.

How the hell do they claim to KNOW everything for sure, even when it happens halfway around the planet? They automatically try to paint a rosy picture even if it is something that people should know about for their own protection, which is how the WTC got destroyed.

The people need to tell our government to quit trying to run the goddam world and start getting their shit together in our own country!

You're right Al. Our government has delusions of grandeur. They think they are entitled to play God over the rest of the planet.

You're so correct. What right did the US have to enter WWII and save Europe's ass? What right did the US have to resist Soviet imperialism for 40 years and save the world's ass?

The unmitigated gall! What busy fuckingbody bastards.

Well if one of our satellites caught the flight of the missile from the Ukrainian training exercise, then we WOULD know, duh!

As a matter of fact, this is a neat way of letting the rest of the world know that our satellites can catch any of these launches and pinpoint their origin.

Well if one of our satellites caught the flight of the missile from the Ukrainian training exercise, then we WOULD know, duh!

We should share this info, if it exists, with Putin's administration and let him work it out with the Ukraine - and stay out of it publicly. I'm sure Putin & Co would actually rather have this be a terrorist attack than a major, major screw up by the most important of their former states, so they want to start out by giving Ukraine the benefit of the doubt. But again, if we know it's not a terroristic act, we don't have much business commenting on it publicly. We've got our own shit going on here, and it would help to have Putin on board with us 100% right now.

"...But again, if we know it's not a terroristic act, we don't have much business commenting on it publicly."

What, and let people think it was? If it was a terrorist missile then calls for the airlines to shut down again in anticipation of further missile attacks would be inevitable. I don't see your logic here to let people sweat out believing it's another terrorist attack if we know otherwise.

We've already stated that we "know" it wasn't. My point is that getting in Putin's face publicly at this point serves no real purpose once that fact has been stated by our government (to us and him, which it has,) and any satellite, AWAC or other evidence is shared with him.

-- Bemused (and_amazed@you.people), October 05, 2001.

Look, if our smartass "officials" have definitive PROOF that it was NOT a terrorist attack, then they should SHOW them the proof and save everyone a lot of wasted effort.

Instead they act like the KNOW everything, yet everything has to be a BIG MOTHERFUCKING SECRET. They should quit trying to play God and either PUT UP or SHUT UP!

Maybe they have. Anything you tell the people you also tell the bad guys, and they just adjust accordingly.

Slow Ball here GTF. With the US trying to drum up antiterrorist fervor wherever what's the advantage in playing down chances of a terrorist attack on the plane? Honesty maybe? Naw, nevermind.
