crab apples (other uses)greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
I have a wonderful crab apple tree and I have recipes for jam/cider, etc. Are there ways to use these numerous little apples in decorations i.e., using wax, drying, etc.Any recommendations and/or resources that I could use would be greatly appreciated. (I hate to see them go to waste.

Make a juice from them and freeze it. At Christmas, pull it out, warm it and add cinnamon (and a liberal amount of spirits if you're so inclined!), and lots of honey. Serve warm as a hot "mulled" drink to Christmas guests -- very impressive served in fancy glass coffee mugs with a cinnamon stick!

You can make liquid pectin using crabapple juice and sugar. I don't recall the exact amounts, but I know the recipe was in Countryside in the last couple of years. Can anyone remember when?
