You really should check out this site, as it has much better figures and lots of pictures: http://www.sfmuseum.org/1906/06.html

Also, I tried googling (google.com) with "1906 earthquake" and "san francisco" and got several pages of history sites to look at, too.

Hey Lisa! My very second post to this forum was about it.
There is much to learn about it. Here are some pics:

This is pretty horrific:
There are countless things to be learned, but good luck!

Ack!!!! That big hole at Broderick Street is a couple of blocks from my house. When it went up, I ran to the neighbors because it looked like THEIR chimney was exploding -- it was that defined of a smoke cloud.

I sat on somebody's car (well, me and a whole lot of other people sat on somebody's car) down at Divisadero and Chestnut where we could see the firemen running down into the major damage zone without being in their way.

The liquor store there must have sustained a lot of damage, but I don't remember them locking the doors for cleanup. They were a pretty big neighborhood supporter and were probably looking for generators to get back in business with, like the Marina Super and Victor's did.

Most of us on that car were numb. It was so awful. Those beyond- beautiful, tatty old buildings just gone, and entirely at random.

My most striking image of that intersection was a man in a tweed suit (on an extremely hot day in October, if you remember) racing down Divisadero towards the smoke. The firemen tried to block his path, but when he yelled, "My children are down there!" they just waved him through. I have never seen anyone run so fast in my life.

i need some information about the san fransisco earthquake on the year 1909 cause i have a type of test about it in three days.

-- alicia tracy (sugarbaby023@yahoo.com), November 19, 2003.

Um, you'll have better luck searching for the earthquake in 1906. Check out www.sfhistory.org and its related sites. If you can get to a library, read through "The Earth Shook, The Sky Burned." And you must read Gladys Hansen's research on the 1906 quake -- she has uncovered actual death figures and cleared up many other myths about the '06 quake.

i found this when lookin' @ a Newspaper artical the day after the event i dont know if it is any help to you although i hope it is. sorryit isnt' much the rest of it was damaged. i am from San fracisco and moved to England after the 'quake shook my house so much the roof colapsed so we moved here to escape it all... any way here is my artical Yesterday, San Francisco was rocked by a powerful earthquake. It lasted just 15 seconds, but left 63 people dead - most of them killed when a two-tier freeway collapsed - and there was massive damage to buildings all over the city.

Power has been knocked out and hasn’t been fully restored. So far it has killed 36 people, injured 3,757 people, left 13,000 people homeless, 27 fires at least. 5.2 magnitude shock struck 37 minutes after the earthquake happened.

sorry it isnt much!!! RyAn . - . - . - . - . -. - .

-- Kat (Minx_1011@hotmail.com), April 18, 2004.

San Francisco had the earthquake in October 1989 because we voted it for that date. Too early to interfere with our Halloween celebrations and just late enough to miss the end of summer holidays.
