Why glorify terrorists and morons?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Having a terrorist on the cover of 'Time' was bad enough. Why give terrorists the attention that they so deperately/patheticly seek. The men who commited those horrible senseless acts are patheic/depraved/deprived/tortured almost robotic human beings, brainwashed and taught from birth-literally-to hate Americans. It is the people BEHIND the scences who are laughing ang loving all the attention. If you encounter this kind of flagarent disregard, in person, in print, or on the internet in forums such as this-ignore it. Don't answer. Don't BUY into the media hype. Don't BUY magazines that feature terrorists on the cover. Don't ANSWER posts that are made to inflame you. Ignore them. They WANT, they NEED your attention. These people are NOTHING without YOU. Everytime you answer them you are FEEDING them! DON'T!

Well said Kathy!

Great point. Maybe you might consider emailing this to 'Time'.

I agreee but....some people only know what they read out of these magazines. Without the news and papers and all how would some folks find out about this terrible event !! But I agree....do not make a "forever story" about them. The less attention they get the better...just like a bratty spoiled child !!

I know what you're saying, Kathy, the media does overwhelm us with the same issue ad nauseum, however I assume you aren't inferring that they should cease informing the public about what's going on in the world. We get little enough real information as it is.

"Don't ANSWER posts that are made to inflame you." I couldn't agree more. The thread about bin Laden which has apparently been deleted, was very saddening to me. I'm not surprised at much of anything I see on this forum anymore, but I was a bit taken aback by a few of the posts, and from whom they came.

It seems to me that with all the chest-beating and flag-waving demonstrated, that many people haven't a clue what "freedom of speech" even means. Telling a person (yes, this was a person, even if they were out for a lark)that they should appreciate that they are fortunate enough to live in a country where they have the freedom to say whatever they wish, and then turning around and threatening them for having exercised that freedom, is ludicrous at best. Freedom of speech, which we all hold dear, does not mean allowing people to say only that which is pleasing to our ears. It means just what it says, that citizens of this country can say whatever silly, obnoxious thing that comes into their head. Yes, we have the right to respond, to take the bait, to respond in kind, to sound like adults or like the children he was accused of being. But once one starts threatening people with bodily harm because their speech is displeasing , one becomes little different than those nations,or those people we are taught to despise.

It's amazing how little it really takes to manifest rage and retribution in human beings. Is it any wonder there is always war going on somewhere in our world?

Earthmama, I was very surprised at the reaction to the bin Laden thread too! Obviously, it was a kid trying to raise a little trouble. The threats were shocking considering what our Nations has just been through. Hasn't there been enough violence? I guess it got deleted cause I don't spot it. Children like that just want to get attention and I thought everyone would just ignore him/her/it. Thre are many opinions that are posted here that I don't agree with and that's fine. No doubt there are posters that dislike my opinions and I respect that. No one has tried to bomb my computer lately! LOL! God bless!
