Osage orange (Hedgeapples)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I am hoping that someone here would be able to send me some osage oranges also known as hedge apples. Supposedly they are to keep spiders out of your house. I don't really care about the spiders, I just like the looks of the osage oranges! I would be happy to pay the shipping charges. So if anyone has any extra osage oranges, please let me know!

You do know that those apples weigh a lot? Where about are you located? We have them all around here, but I'm not sure if they are falling off the tree's yet.

It's good you don't want them for spider control. I tried that once in the basement and eventually they were covered with spider webs. The best use we found was once when the kids spray painted them gold, they looked really cool!

Michael - I'll send a truck load right away!! Is Roadway alright or would you prefer Yellow Freight? PS send money. I don't think they'll repel spiders - bugs and my horse seem to be the only thing that will eat them.

Hope you are sent a few osage oranges to try. Last year I brought four home to Alabama, from my Mother's home and I find that they do repell spiders! I am hoping to drive home again soon to get many more.

We dried them in the sun for about a week, and placed them in the windows of the laundry room, hot water heater room, and shed. We haven't had a spider web problem for the whole year.

I had heard they kept away crickets, and that they are suppose to be cut open!

I used them in my apartment and they cleared out all the spiders, centipedes and silverfish. Now that it is spring all of the bugs are back and there aren't any osage oranges. If they mature quicker in another state please email me. I will pay for them (if the amount is reasonable).
