Cast Iron Hint

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACountryPlace : One Thread

Did you know your not supposed to wash cast iron with soap and water? It causes rust.

Instead Just wipe it out. Storebought cast iron needs to be treated once. Maybe later I can dig out that process. seems like it was pretty simple to do.

I bet a lot of ya'll already knew that.

Ken, you are right. The process is simple. Cover the pan with cooking oil and put in a 350 degree oven for about an hour and just let it sit in the oven until it is cool, if possible. Wipe out excess reamining oil and you are ready to use your cast iron. You are right you shouldn't use soap on cast iron.

Talk to you later.
