Shipping Crisis: Searching for local chicken hatcheries (California) : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Due to the shipping crisis, the chicken hatcheries we have typically dealt with on the east coast cannot ship chicks to us on the west coast via airlines for now.

Does anyone know of a chicken hatchery that will ship (via truck) chicks within or to California in small quantities (100 chicks)?

They should be able to. I have chickens coming from McMurray Hatchery the week of October 6. They were suppose to be shipped on the 11th and then the disaster occured. McMurray called to let me know that since they would be unable to ship that day they were shipping to me from the next hatching.

It could be that the variety you want is no longer available. Usually because either all hatchings are about over by now or else it is too cold to ship most varieties.

As far as the chicken shipping crisis, McMurray told me that it is not a problem at this time, since an extension of the cut off was granted by an emergency temporary bill that was passed; however, shipping is in danger for next year, big time! Everyone needs to write thier senators and congressmen so that chicks will be permitted to be shipped via US post office via the airlines (as they always have been). You can find your representatives online and they will accept emails in lieu of written letters.

Try Someone on that forum should be able to help. I think Metzger's hatchery may be in CA.

Don't know about the geography, but perhaps you could drive to these hatcheries to pick up the birds. Some airlines are flying the day-olds, but since this can change at the drop of a hat, I suggest you call about delivery ~ whether by air or truck.

In Fresno:
