Blue Slate and Lilac turkeys in W. MA

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I have several Blue Slate and Lilac turkeys that I want to sell. I am interested in people that would like to breed or own them for their feathers, eggs, home meat consumption, companionship... I will also have poults available in early spring next year to sell too. Blue Slates and Lilacs are non-broadbreasted turkeys. They do roost, fly and graze efficiently. They work very well in pasture management systems and are more hardy than broad brested birds. The meat is supurb, without the thick tendons in the legs like the broad breasted and are edible, unlike wild turkey you shoot in the fall... If interested, please emamil me. Thank you.

The legs on wild turkeys aren't edible (or are tough...). WIld birds do taste well if butchered right, its the legs that can get tougher than nothing else... Shannon.

You mentioned companionship, are these turkeys friendlier, perhaps safter on a homestead with very small children? Or are these just as aggressive.
