When the IRA was setting bombs in England and Northern Ireland, why wasn't there a healthy suspicion of Catholics in the U.S. by Americans as there is now is of middle-eastern people (moslems)? I guess the IRA was smart enough not to bomb America.

Interesting comment. However, I visit England quite often. I take after the Irish side of my family. I have noticed that security people make a more thorough job of searching my personal belongings than that of other passengers and visitors to public places. Do I feel like a victim of racial profiling? No, I do not! I actually feel this thoroughness makes things safer for everyone.
