Russian Farmer's 7 reasons for success

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

There is a article in Successful Farming magazine about a group called Fellowship of Christian Farmers (FCF)asking a Russian farmer why he was so successful amidst the many challenges he faces in the former Soviet Union. He listed 7 reasons:

1. Sell before you plant.

2. Accept no direct help from the government.

3. Pay your help well.

4. Respect the land as a gift from God.

5. Find good sources for the information you need.

6. Share information with your neighboring farmers.

7. We have guns, and we have friends.

Alison, if you have friends, and guns, you have a pretty good defensive line against intruders and criminals.

Or, as ours are used, you can defend your livestock against predators and do a little hunting to feed your family.

Sounds like good advice.

As for line number seven, keep in mind that we're talking about Russia as it's currently constituted where their society is threating to come apart at the seams and your enemy could be anything from bandits to the government. In such times as those it seems prudent to put your faith in God and to keep your powder dry.
