Dexter calves for sale

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I've got two purebred Dexter bull calves that I'll be weaning soon from their moms and will be for sale. They are 5-6 months old and can be registered, or raised for beef, to butcher next fall. The bulls are black, mothers were black, dad is a dun. One bull is especially good looking and would make a good herd sire.

I'm located in north central Nebraska.

Bruce, Wish we lived closer .. I want a small herd of dexters. Id like to buy a bred cow for starters. Hard to find around here , though I've just started looking ( northeast Ohio ). Everyone I have talked to neither eats the meat or drinks the milk .. I want to do both. We keep herefords now a small herd of about a dozen , draft horses pigs and chickens. Some day we will add our Dexters. Ralph

Ralph, bottle raise one of your Hereford heifers next year (I suggest goat's milk instead replacer), and raise her for a family milk cow. She won't ever compete with a Holstein for quantity of milk, but she ought to give enough for a family plus her calf!

Thanks Kathleen ... Ilooked right past my own girls. Guess I didn't see the forest for the trees. I think Dexters are neat , I guess that I was trying to justify why I needed one or two ! Thanks for the reply, Ralph

We have two cows and would like to either purchase a dexter bull or have them AI. We live n central NY so you live too far away for us too but does anyone know of any Dexter breeders in our area? (while we're on the subject) And I don't think you need TOO much of a reason to raise Dexters-They're wonderfully calm and easy going.
