Half gallon wide mouth canning jars

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Does anyone know if half gallon size canning jars are available with a wide mouth. All of mine are for the regular size lid and I would find the wide mouth helpful to use with my Food Saver. If so, where did you purchase them? Thanks.

Yes, Anita, half gallon canning jars are available with a wide mouth. I bought mine years ago but have seem them at Fleet Farm in WI.

You may also want to contact Fillmore Container (think that is the name).

Hope this helps.

They have them in hardware stores in my area. Perhaps your hardware store could order them for you, if you can't find them in stock.

We had our local hardware store order them about 2 years ago. Come in a case of 6.

Has anyone bought half-gallon canning jars *this* year? I started buying them a couple of years ago and then my one and only source in the county stopped carrying them and I haven't been able to find another source anywhere in North Florida. I've been told several times by suppliers that Kerr (Altrista) stopped making them. If they are still in fact being made I'll start looking for them again. They're just the thing for storing dry milk and other environmentally sensitive dry pack foods that you wouldn't want to keep in five gallon bucket quantities.

I'm willing to call the stores around here and see if anyone has them. That is, if anyone wants me to -- so email me if you want me to find out if anyone has them this year.

My husband bought two cases of 6 each earlier in the summer at a Wal- Mart supercenter. A year or so ago, I special ordered some through a hardware store in the Ace chain.

You can get them from Azure Standard (http://www.azurefarm.com/). I just checked, and they're less than $7 for a case of 6.

THANK YOU "Z in Wa", at that price even with shipping they won't be all that much more than what I was paying here locally. I was really put out when my source quit carrying them.
