Famous climber commits suicide at Teton, who is he?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Mountaineering : One Thread

I'm curious to know the name of the famous climber who commited suicide on a park bench in a camping site somewhere in the Teton National park. I've heard he spent some time in France living it cheap and that there was an article in Outsider Magazine shortly after his death. That is about all I know, I would sure appreciate the help though in the search of his name.

Thank you kindly, FiveX5@aol.com

Gary Hemming. Hemming was well-known in Europe in the 60's and climbed with John Harlin, among others. Pete Sinclair's autobiography (the name of the book escapes me at the moment) has some interesting anecdotes about Hemming. Mike
