Oarlocks

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Open-water rowing : One Thread

Hello,

I live at the bottom of afric a, cape Town. I am trying to get some oarlocks . but just cant figure out how to estimate the correct size. I gues that the real question is, what should the play be between the oars and the oarlock . That is if the oar os 2 inches thick , how large should the openinh be ( throat ) Tere are not many oarlocks availble in CT (except the plastics) and we might have to cast our own in bronze . The oars will be for a traditional rowboat. Thanks in advance Mike H
