Helping Fire Fighters in NYC

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

If you want to help buy supplies for the recovery effort in NYC there is an easy way. There is a help fund called the NYC Help Fund. You can donate as much or as little as you want using the website paypal.com to send your contribution to NYC_Help_Fund@yahoo.com from either your credit card or checking account. The money donated will go towards supplies for the fire fighters working on the recovery effort, as well as to the families of those who have been lost. Your contribution is greatly appreciated.

I'm not saying this one isn't legitimate, but there have been numerous alerts about bogus 'charities' springing up after the WTC disaster. Before donating any money to a charity, check it out thoroughly first. Sure sounds like they want the money paid to them and then they will take it from there. Personally, I don't think so.

For the thread poster, I believe every state requires a charity to be registed with the state of their home office or where they intend to solicit contributions. What state approval do you have?

Well actually this donation is going through a school. I am not the one in charge of setting it up, but I'm sure that the person who is got a license. The donations are primarily from students and teachers in the school, who have already raised over $1250 and we thought that we may be able to add to that by expanding to the internet.

I saw President Bush on tv speaking at the Rose Garden today, and HE mentioned a website for people who want to donate. libertyunites.org It seems Microsoft, Intel, Yahoo, AOL and others have just put this site together in the last 72 hours, for anyone who wants to donate and they have received alot of money so far. Since tthe President endorsed it on tv, I'd say it is legit.
