Wearever Chicken Bucket instructions

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hi ya'll. I bought a Wearever Chicken Bucket at a yard sale today. It was $2 so I figured even if it didnt have instructions I could use it to cook in. Its a pressure cooker thingy that you fry chicken in. I dont have a clue as to how to go about using it. If anybody has one or knows about how to use it I'd sure appreciate some help. Blessings Peggy

It sounds like what you have is just a version of a deep frier. Is there a temperature dial on the side somewhere? If it doesn't measure in degrees, you may have to use a suitable thermometer to determine the desired setting for what is being fried. Unless you use it often, the amount of cooking oil/grease required may be a cost factor. The local farmers' co-op sells cooking oil in, I think, one or two gallon containers.

Ken, this pot is like a pressure cooker. It doesnt have a gauge. The lid seals like a pressure cooker and it has a jiggling thingy on the top. There are also 6 very small holes in the top and an ingraved instruction to be sure and keep them clean and open. I'm assuming that you put oil in and get it hot add the chicken and put on the lid. I just cant imagine how long to let it pressure and if there are any dire and drastic "warning, dont do this" instructions I need to know. I dont think it could blow because of the little holes that are probably to let out steam so I may just experiment. I just hate wasting even one piece of meat if someone has ever used one of these pots. I get cooking oil at a wholesale place that supplies the restaurants in this area. Thanks for the answer. Blessings Peggy

Seems like I have heard the name of Wearever, so they might be listed.

In reflecting on this, it might be a steam cooker. I have been told the chicken at KFC is steam cooked, then coated and fried only long enough to get the crispness desired.

Thanks so much for the Mirror #. My Wearever search was goin nowhere. I'll try one of those numbers first thing Mon. morn. This is one of the reasons I like this forum so much. I dont think I've ever ask a question that didnt get a useful answer. Thanks again. Peggy

peggy,i have the chicken bucket you are referring to.it is wonderful, for the 6 qt.fill oil to the line on the bucket, heat to 350 degree, drop chicken in hot oil using a slotted spoon, brown chicken for 3min.place lid on turn until sealed secure the cover by turning clockwise until clamp is positioned under the brackets.turn knob clockwise until it is tightened. cook for 15min. remove from burner release steam with a fork ,turn the black knob or clamp slide the lid away from you. oh, cook for 15 min.on med heat. i practiced getting the lid on and off before i actually cooked in it. if you oil the rubber gasket it is easier and i think it is recommed to do so. of course the number of pieces, and degree of browness determines the amt of time. i always cook 6 -8 pcs. soaking the chicken in egg wash and seasoned flour. hope you try it. della
