The following is from the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: Preliminary hypocenter for earthquake of 2001 Sep 14, VANCOUVER ISLAND, CANADA REGION, about 130 miles (205 km) SSW of Port Hardy, BC, Canada: latitude 48.9 degrees north, longitude 128.3 degrees west, origin time 04 45 12.2 utc, depth shallow, magnitude 5.8. The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. There have been no reports of damage. Additional information about this earthquake can be obtained from the Geological Survey of Canada in Sidney, British Columbia (604-363-6500).
