Ansett grounded: 17,000 staff and 45,000 passengers hit

Ansett's administrators today suspended the airline's flight operations with immediate effect, affecting 17,000 and 45,000 passengers today.

In a statement released early today, Mr Peter Hedge of PricewaterhouseCoopers said while the flight operations of Ansett and its subsidiary airlines would be suspended immediately, talks would continue with parties interested in Ansett's future operations.

Whew....one doesn't exactly navigate Australia without Ansett. That is going to leave a lot of those out in the bush really up a creek where Ansett is their only means of getting into a city for medical care, etc. Taz
