Well, the country was already slowing down economically so we may well see yet more economic decceleration. A recession may well be probable but I don't think it will cause a major depression like we had in the 1930's.

As for fighting in the U.S. who would be fighting and why? I don't think that's likely at all. At least not in the U.S.

Nevertheless, it's *always* a prudent thing to be prepared because if it's not what you think is going to happen it may well be something else. Life is not certain and chances are you will get no advance warning of a crisis before it hits, just like we didn't get one with this crisis. You'll either be ready or you won't.

No fighting here, but it will be expensive both in lives and material to support the assult on the states that support terrorism. The deputy scondary of defense today announced that as the military ramps up for this action, they are including the "ending of the states that support terrorism". That is a serious committment to sending troops to several parts of the world (not at the same time as we don't have that many...). The president today said that we would be doing future generations a big favor by taking on these states now and ending terrorism. But evidently as for now, it is the start of something big. God Bless America

I don't think we will see actual fighting on our soil -- probably more terrorist attacks, but what I fear the most and believe, is that we will see the ushering in of germ and/or biological warfare. That is really scary stuff! We have advanced to the point that it is the only way a small country without the means of a sound air military could wage war.

I also am concerned that the recent attack will usher in more governmental control over our lives. I think we have just progressed to the point that it will have to happen. People want the government to protect us -- the government has to respond. Also, pretty scary stuff.

I think things are getting so out of control that there is no answers anymore. Whatever is going to happen is going to happen. All we can do is fight for what freedom we have left, pray for discernment at election time, and hang on for the ride! Oh yeah, and stock that pantry, put in some wood, and get those chickens and goats producing!

Just one more note. Look to getting off the grid. If we do go to war the muslin countries have to band together and will cut off our oil supply. That means $5 a gallon for gas will seem a bargain! Also, it will be prohibitive cost wise to heat with oil. Oil is needed in most areas for electricity. It all kind of goes hand in hand.

We just need to keep our heads and get prepared. If we don't need it, well...we aren't out much and have become more self-sufficient. If we do need it...we did the right thing! I am planning on getting ready in case some relatives need to get out of the cities. We have a big house, lots of land, and a big pantry. Hey, I am not being gloom and doom -- just getting ready...JUST IN CASE!!

All I know is that people are still buying left and right on "Ebay" Also i think it is stupid to stop all baseball games and football games, in my opinion that is excatly what they want from all this. And to stop flights why not just put federal marshalls on the planes and let them go. All we are doing is making them able to boost and celebrate about what they did by stopping our everyday activies. I know people who have been glued to the TV for 2 days,Now I ask you WHY? I have bills to pay, have to work, food to get, animals to care for. As tragic as this attack is it will only be the end of the world if we let it.

Remember your history lessons: WW2 brought us OUT of a depression, not sent us into one. We could use the boost to production here that a war would bring but I for one would rather pay a little more and have a little less than to see a war.

I feel there will be economic repurcussions because of this event. We must all try to live as economically as we can, and continue in many of the cost-cutting measures that we already use.

Although I normally never respond directly to some of the comments on here, I must respectfully dis-agree with you, Tom. The reason to stop these sporting events and movie premieres etc.. is out of RESPECT for the people who's lives have been ended and their families. Some of the fires are still burning for goodness sake! There are people who are still looking for loved ones, our citizens are hurting and there is nothing wrong with stepping back for a few days or even a week to sympathize, reflect and let the magnitude of these events penetrate our consciousness. Whether you like it or not life will change for all of us in some way because of what happened here. It will directly touch us or someone we love on some way. to blithely say "OH, well" let's get on with our lives just isn't right. Really who cares about sports in the big scheme of things. I say send the $1 million a year football and baseball players to NY and let them dig in the rubble. They aren't heros!, but those firemen who rushed in to save lives and ended up losing their own lives sure are! Bet they didn't make a million dollars last year. It is rather irritating the way people whine if they can't watch their favorite TV show or their soaps when there is a real live tragedy happening right here.

someonewhocares: I respectfully answer your respectfull disagreement. Let me say first off that I feel sorry for the people who were unfortunate enough to be killed in this recent wave of political/religious upheavel. It was not of their doing.

But, you say to stop these sporting events, etc. out of respect for people who's lives have been ended and their families. If we were to follow that scenario we would never do anything in this country again. At the moment there are close to 285,200,000 people in this country, there will be about 1.5 million births this yr. And out of that some 40,000+ will die in car accidents this yr. Some 14,000+ will be murdered this yr. A few other tens of thousands will die from other assorted causes. Why don't we stop the country, sporting events out of respect for these people? Their lives have been ended just like those on Tuesday. In most all of the above circumstances there were people who looked for love ones to return, groups of citizens were hurting, etc. The only difference between the events that happened on Tuesday and the others above is it was a large group at one time instead of being spread out over the yr. And I'm not sure whether people are really anger that the people were killed or angry because they knocked down a couple of landmarks? But anyways, Death happens, whether by accident or on purpose or just naturally, but any way you look at it death happens. Not a thing you or I can do about it. But the world still spins. I do agree in part that certain things could/should probably be halted for a short period of time in the areas that were affected just out of common reasoning.

And you are right life will change for all of us because of this, we will have more security, more survailance, less access to parts of the country, more government intervention, etc.

To have players go to NY and dig would not accomplish anything except news stories. They would accomplish more by donating blood or money.

And who's fault is it that fireman, police,EMS people are not paid a millon dollars a yr.? The American peoples fault that who. because the majority have more respect and worship for people who play games and invent computers then they do for people who save lives.

And yes it erks me also about TV whining but then again I only watch a few hrs a week so I don't know what they are whining about.

may you stay forever young,

It was reported that the PLAYERS did not want the games to go on this weekend -- that they said their hearts wouldn't be in it. Very possibly some of them have friends or family who died in this tragedy.

-- Joy F [in So. Wisconsin] (CatFlunky@excite.com), September 13, 2001.

You can bet the players are still getting paid for setting the game out. I have not heard anything about any professional sports player donating their unearned salary to the relief effort.

I don't think we will actually go over and take over a country such as Afganistan. We may throw a few missiles around, maybe a lot more than we did the last time we tried to kill Osama Bin Lagging. But to actually send troops in to take over an Islamic country will be out of the question.

When Russia tried to take over Afganistan, the US sent weapons and trainning to fight the Russians because we feared that if Russia gets a foot hold in the oil countries they may try to take over all the oil fields.

Well I feel it will be the same way if we send troops into Afganistan. Russia (and maybe China) will send troops into stop us for fear of the same thing.

I think what we are all finding out is that whoever controlls the oil fields is who will controll the world. So yes, we need to do more with solar power in our own nation so we don't have to be so dependent on the Islamic oil. Our nation needs to spend more money on developing other energies so we can be more self reliant.

I'll say one thing about all this (besides, or in addition to what's already been said) ... it's sure gotten down deep inside each of us and jerked us WIDE AWAKE! You read it all over here on the forum ... statements like, "tailed the tiger," woke the sleeping giant," etc..

It's also evedint that we're all hurting inside for the tragedy - the loss - the senselessness of it all! And while it hurts a lot and has produced a very unsure future, it does have us AWARE of our vulnerability, of our connectedness, and of our deep-down love for this country, our way of life, and our fellow Americans! I pray for comfort and guidance for each of us, and I pray that we don't EVER take our freedoms for granted in this country! Stay awake, my brothers and sisters - watch and pray!

Thank you Tom for your gentlemanly response, and many of your points are well taken. Often times I find I look at the world one way and come on here and get a little diffeent view.

I;saw some wall street managers on tv and they said they were going to BUY no matter what the market did because they want to show their support for America. So the stock market may go up!
