This is NOT war

When Germany invaded Poland in 1939, war began in Europe. The military might of many countries began a bitter conflict. Two and half years later, Japan attacked Pearl Habour with a mighty fleet of aircfaft and seriously damaged America's naval fleet based there.

In 1967 the Arab nations attacked Israel and began a vicious war that lasted only 6 days. In 1981 Argentina attacked the undefended Falkland Islands and began a minor war with Britain. Ten years later Sadam Hussein invaded Kuwait and precipitated the Gulf war.

In each of these cases War was between military the forces of nations. Civilians were involved, and many civilians died. But except for the blitz on London or the fire bombing of Dresden, the main conflict was military against military.

War is the military action of one or more nations attempting to overcome another or other nations by destroying the target nation/s military capablility.

What has just happened in New York and Washington is not war, it is far worse. It is worse because the attack was primarily directed at civilians. People who had no way of defending themselves were attacked without any warning by someone or some nation who is too gutless to admit responsibilty even after the fact. This attack is so much worse than war that there is no word to adequately describe it.

Maybe the perpetrators do believe that there is a reason why a receptionist answering a telephone at her desk or a data entry clerk sitting at his computer terminal had to die. If so then why aren't they telling the rest of the world just what that reason is?

Maybe they have some religious reason for launching such a deadly attack and killing innocent airline passengers at the same time. But no religion that I know of demands that followers kill innocent people in this manner.

America, you have suffered something terrible and all the rest of world feels great sympaphy for your loss. All of the rest of the world, that is, except for those who committed this deed. Except for those who organised this deed. Except for those who harbour these faceless criminals, and except for those palestinians who were shown on TV dancing in the street and celebrating. Anyone who can feel joy at this horror is no better than those who perpetrated it.

I watched on TV as the horror of the last two days has unfolded, and everytime that a New Zealand survivor has been identified I have silently cheered. But at the same time I realise that in all of New York there would be fewer than one thousand New Zealanders compared to many million Americans, and I realise just how many people will have lost family and friends.

The organisers of this terror campaign must not get away with it. They must be dealt with severely. But so must any country or any group that supports them in way. Perhaps I am just as bad as the terrorists, but I strongly believe that the only way to prevent this from happening again is to completey destroy them. Destroy the terrorist groups. Destroy their supporting country or countries, and destroy those who would cheer at such wanton death and destruction. Yes, even if it means nuke them. They must never be able do this again.

Thank you, Malcolm. I very much appreciate your support.

However, I'm sitting here wondering how we can destroy them all? We would have to wipe out the entire Middle East to do that. Even that wouldn't be the end of it because there are Middle Easterners all over the world..not to mention people who would sympathize with them. I think this would cause never ending retalition. They strike, we strike. They strike, we strike. It will never end because there will always be people who side with us, and people who side with them.

The Israli's and the Palistinians will kill each other forever. Perhaps we have now been thrown into the mix.

Heard Rep Bonior today state that even Congress was not alerted to the threat even an hour after the first plane crashed into the WTC. It took the local Capital police watching CNN to figure-out they as well maybe a target and measures needed to be taken immediately.

Am I the only one who is not buying this was just an oversight? That our security, our intelligence is this bad? Many things do not fit and sorry, while I completely understand the sentiment that one must support our Prez in times like these, this still however does not mean we have to park our brains and ignore what I think are obvious questions about this whole incident.

Doc, instead of drinking and smoking dope at night, would you please stay sober and watch credible news programs?

It's not that our intelligence is so bad - it is that their intelligence is so good! Osama (and I'm not saying Osama is the Middle Easterner responsible for this, yet) has very sophisticated equipment and he's not the sand monkey people would like to think he is.

He is a brilliant man whether we like it or not, and he has very strong ties to people living in this country (family and friends). Those people have closer relationships than you can imagine and that's why you're confused. No one can penetrate their circle unless they are a blood relative. With loyalty like that, it's difficult to impossible to find out what they're planning.

Keep posting, your continual run.cng at the lack of security displays your lack of intelligence.

After Pearl Harbor a lot of people looked at our involvement in what became WW2 as "Mr. Roosevelt's war." Doc, are you suggesting that whatever's coming is Mr. Bush's war? Know you don't like the guy but sheesh!
