why did canon produce EOS 3000N rather than something that will replace EOS 5/A2?

A lot of people don't like to admit it, but the EOS 5 WAS replaced. That's what the 3 is all about.

Canon had a pro line camera, a top amateur/semi-pro camera, a middle amateur camera, an advanced beginner camera and a crippled beginner camera. They still do. The 5000 became the 3000 and, with minor adjustments, became the 3000N, the 500N became the 300, the 50 became the 30, the 5 became the 3 and the 1N became the 1V. They had 5 camera options before and they still do.

Bottom line... There is no other replacement for the 5. Get used to it. That's not going to stop Canon from making upgrades to the current lineup.

The 3000N is obviously in a completely different class to the EOS 5. They have to turn over the lower models faster, as these are the ones sold in places like dixon's, wal-mart, wherever.

As for the EOS 5...Don't loose hope yet. The fact that Canon are still making it is telling. My guess is that they are going to wait for another year, and then release a 5N or 5LE which will not be produced in large numbers. Why? The 5 was released in november 1992, so in a year's time we'll reach 10 years of the EOS 5 (yes, it's THAT old). This is ONLY conjecture, and what I think. Canon (as usual) have not said anything, and probably won't for a long time, so please don't cite this as being what canon will do. It may well not happen.
