Filled up this morning in Madison, WI

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I just thought I'd let you folks know that I filled up my F-150 this morning at a Mobil station in Madison, WI. There was no waiting and I pulled right up to the pump. Even though they were sold out of the two cheaper blends of gasoline, they were selling the "good stuff" for the same price as the cheaper blends. I paid $1.71 a gallon.

Way to go Mobil! You have my business from now on!

Last night my daughter filled up at a Kwik Trip in Oregon, WI and was the 22nd car in line. Don't know what she paid per gallon.

I filled up here in our small town last night, lines were about 5 cars on each pump. Gas was $1.79 but later we heard from someone just coming from the nearby larger town 20 miles away that the price had jumped to $2.78 and also reports that Sioux Falls, South Dakota had jumped to $5.00 per gallon. My son in Killeen Texas said that gas there was $1.33 (wish I were there) but reports of people coming from DAllas was $7.50 and Austin $4.00. Maybe some people are in panic mode and you know how "gossip" can travel. Maybe this is true here too. What are prices today for all of you? I haven't left for work yet but will report back and let you know if it went up here after last night. And remember to keep those on the east coast and their families in your thoughts and prayers.

We must all remember to thank the station owners who have resisted the urge to profiteer. And push for prosecution of those who do. It's time for patriotism not profiteering.

$1.59 here in Grinnell, IA, there was some lines, but not more than 6- 10 cars that I saw, for 4 pumps.

Just a quick FYI, At least one local radio station here in Ohio, is requesting that customers save the reciepts of gas stations that are price gougeing. We are asked to send them to the Ohio Attorney Generals Office for investigation.

I'm all for govt. action against price gougers but do what you can, first. Any station that unduly raised prices should not be patronized. Period. The Citgo station in Waunakee, WI that, last night, was selling gas for $3/gal should be closed due to lack of business by the end of the month, not because we relied on any govt. agency to take action. We speak a lot about personal responsibilty on this forum. Do the responsible thing now, and support those honest businessmen who are doing the right thing.

Our gov'nr just earned his keep imo, he declared a state of emergency & put into effect price controls on petrol in mississippi! 1.35-1.39 is what it is per gallon in the big town! now that is a great use of excutive power!

Just filled up my car for $1.54/gal., about the same price as before the attack. There are a few stations around here that are gouging though. I am considering making up a sign and posting it in a visible place on adjacent private property (with the owner's permission, of course)saying, "Price gougers are in league with terrorists."

Gas prices have actually gone down here in southeastern Alabama.Regular was 1.39 yesterday and 1.36 this morning.

You have the ultimate power in these situations, DO NOT patronize these stations ever again, drive somewhere else, anywhere else, instead!!! Even if you have to get a bulk fuel tank at home, it is worth it to thwart the greedy *******!!!!

Our Attorney General here in Texas read folks the riot act on price gouging. Haven't seen any in my town. Gas has been $1.29/gallon to $1.33/gallon for a while.

When I arrived home on Tuesday at about 1:30 coming out of Washington, DC and having passed the Pentagon on my way out, my Y2k mindset had already kicked in and I went directly to the grocery store to top of my supplies at home and then to the gas station to fill up the car. Gas was still at $1.39 when I bought it. Then I went home and sent hubby out to buy more back up dog food and to fill up the van tank as well which he did at a lower price since he went to the discount place. This morning when I headed back in to DC, the same gas station that I had bought my gas from was not showing it at $1.47. So, there was just a little price gouging there. On top of that, I got our home heating oil delivery yesterday at the price quoted to us three weeks before when we ordered it and I was much more contented once the oil was in the tank. Now I feel ready for anything although it sure is difficult to figure out what anything might be.
