I have made it safely home from Washington, DC

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Just wanted to let those of you that know I work in Washington, DC that I have made it home safely. I work only a block from the White House and I have to say, after the Pentagon got hit, things got really tense in the city. While the loss of life was much greater in New York, and my prayers are with their families, I have to say that as I drove by the Pentagon with one whole side of it blackened and burning, it was a very sobering sight and I can't help wondering where we will all be in the weeks ahead. It is such a symbol to me of our Defense and it was going up in smoke so easily. I stopped at the grocery store and did some more stocking up, figured I better beat the crowds in case things turn bad in the coming weeks. I'm glad that I have potatoes and tomatoes in the garden and will be continuing to harvest those. Freezers are full and so is the larder. I'm ready to hunker down for awhile and I expect I won't be going in to work for a few days at least until things get organized more. Hope you all are home and safe.

Glad you got home safely. Sobering thought I can understand - from what I can see of the pictures, it got nailed right where I used to work back in the dark ages when I used to be in the Army. VERY sobering thoughts, indeed..........Kt.

Colleen, I'm so glad you're safe! Otherwise I might have had to eat your lobster next year! Seriously though, how are things going in D.C. now? I am from Baltimore originally and have a lot of friends in that area. All I hear up here are rumors that fly.
