How do you deal with cow/calf seperation anxiety?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

The three month old calves were sold and carted off yesterday. The mothers started bellowing through the night, but this morning it is continual and LOUD. I don't think there is anything I can do for them, except let time work forgetfulness. God has blessed animals with short memories, I believe, for times like this. But I thought I would ask if anyone else did anything else to ease the anxiety for them and for me.

About 3-days and it'll be over. For you're own sanity you might want to move them to a pasture a little further from the house.

Earplugs. For youself, I mean. For the bossy, a distraction, like green cornstalks cut from the garden and thrown into her pen. or perhaps a pumpkin cut up. but nothing will keep her from bawling some for a few days. It'll be over soon, hang in there.
