greatgrandfather engineer

I believe my greatgrandfather was an engineer for the Tennessee, Alabama and Gorgia Rail Lines in approx. 1900. I'd like to know more about him. Is it possible to obtain personnel records from the railroad? Are there other good sources of information? thanks, bill kaiser

Probably the only source of 100 year old employee records, now, would be at the United Transportation Union in Cleveland, Ohio, who have records back to about 1900. They will do a search for a railroad union employee for a small fee. They can be called at 1-216-228-0411 and their web site is http://www.utu.org/

I may be able to help you with TA&G information if you will get with me off list. We have a TA&G Railway Historical Society and I have many TA&G photos. It may be hard to get much information on your Grandfather because when the TA&G was purchased by Southern, much of the files were trashed. You may have some luck with the Railroad Retirement Board.
