Apple cider vingar, all its uses.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hi everyone, I have a terrible rash, and used everything in the drug store and then some. then I thought of apple cider vinager, and dabbed that on, and it did better at stopping the itch, than all the perscriptions and over the counter medicines I tried. I bet there is lot of uses that we don"t know about. Do you folks out there have any good uses? Love Irene

My grandfather and father swear by it. Dad says its good for a score of things that ail you. I use it as a daily mix with orange juice for urinary health and cholestorol control ,a cleansing mouthwash and for sunburn along with aloe. I have also heard that it can also help with open wounds as spider bites and such, but thankfully have not had to try it for that yet.

Friends tell us they all squirt some in their water glasses whenever they have beans, to stop the gas. I have not tried that since most of us don't have that trouble with beans.

I mix equal amounts of vinegar with honey for a cough syrup.

Substitute cold vinegar for part of the water in pie crust recipes for a flakier, more tender crust. Don't use it for all the water unless you really like vinegar flavored pie crust.

Vinegar adds needed nutrients to animals' water; 1/8-1/4 cup to the gallon.

Clean windows with crumpled newsprint dipped in vinegar.

I will have to try it on itchy rash; nothing else seems to work.

Irene, have you read D.C. Jarvis's books about the many uses of apple cider vinegar? "Folk Medicine", is one of them, and he has another "Arthritis and " something, I can't remember what exactly, but they are fascinating books, and the library would have them, they are from the 1950's I think.

I have long used apple cider vinegar in my horse's feed and in the chicken's water, one ounce per gallon of water, and one ounce per measure of grain per horse.

Two teaspoons of vinegar in cup of hot water, with a touch of honey, is the best remedy for a cold or bronchitis, and an upset stomach too!

I have three pages of uses for apple cider vinegar I will email to anyone who is interested. I don't know if there are rules about lenghty posts here. :) tang

Hi Tang. I'll take those pages please. I have used it as a tonic. 1 tbsp honey to two cider vinegar in a big glass of water daily. Now here is a word of warning! I told a friend about healthful cider vinegar and rather than do 2 little doses in water a day she chugged about 1/2 a cup of cider vinegar in one go. Do not do this unless you like sitting on the toilet for most of the day.

Tang, I would appreciate a copy. Thanks,

We were having a discussion about this just the other day. The label on my large bottle of Apple Cider Vinegar actually reads "apple flavored distilled vinegar" and the ingredients listed are: distilled vinegar from grain, natural flavor with caramel color, diluted with water to a uniform pickling and table strength of 5% acidity. We don't think this is what we should be using as "apple cider vinegar". Our local grocery stores do not seem to carry real apple cider vinegar and, if they do, it's expensive. Does anyone know where I can get the real stuff? or, can I make my own with a jug of apple cider? Thanks!

I use white distilled vinegar to clean my Water Distiller in of using Lime Away in the past to get ride of the Lime Deposits. I have Very hard water (it is Calicium Chloride). The Lime Away ate the metal and damaged the Distiller and now using Vinegar I have now propblems and it is about 1/10 the cost for Lime Away. My water is 65 grains of Hardness and I have to clean the Distiller every 2 weeks. The vinegar I let it set in the distiller for about an hour and it takes off all of the deposits of Calicium and NO damage to the metal in the Distiller.
