the new EOS 3000/66

Canon launched its new low-end slr EOS 3000/66,but it seems that not much new elements are added, just new body finish, slightly changed command dial...... I wonder how come it is launched with the Rebel G/X so similar to it? Do anyone have any comment?

I live in North America where the new camera is not released. Anyways from what I can read you are just better off with the Rebel 2000 or Rebel G. Canon has always advanced their Rebels after each model, I'm not sure why they want to down grade it. But better off with a 2000.

Outside of the US, the Rebel G/X (Eos 500/500N) are no longer sold. The EOS 3000 was in fact the same as the EOS 500. The EOS 3000N moves the game on a little (although I don't know how much, nor whether the 3000N is the same as the 500N). Basically, it is sold to provide a lower entry point into the EOS system. The 3000N will be sold mostly in places like Dixons (a consumer electronics shop...similar to circuit city), alongside P(o)S cameras, with lenses like the 38-76 F4.5-5.6 (Is there a worse EF lens?). Few camera shops bother carrying these bodies, preferring to start with the 300 (rebel 2000).

Basically this camera is better than a rebel G, similar (if not identical) to the X, and not as good as a rebel 2000 (hence the extra 0 in the model number).

I just acquired 2 units for my photo society. The EOS 66 sells for only S$360 (with a mediocre) 35-80mm lens here in Singapore, and that's 1/2 the price of the EOS 300 (Rebel 2000) bundle.

Its an improved version of the EOS 88 (Rebel X in US, I think). It now sports much-needed selectable 3-point focusing and useful autobracketing. Like what my dealer said, its basically an EOS 500n in a new shell. It can do a few new things, most notable being E-TTL flash. Not bad actually, pity the lens which flares like mad and is worse than the Sigma 28-80 we bought to allow members to do macro photography on the cheap.
