When is the best time to plant hollyhock seeds, autumn or spring and how deep should they be planted?

Hi Sherry,

Perennial varieties of Hollyhocks (Alcea rosea) are generally planted directly in the soil in late summer for blooms the following spring. Sow annual strains under glass early and transplant in spring for blooms that summer.

I would not plant deeper than 2-1/2 times the diameter of the seed.

Hope that this helps.

Mike
