Alternator power to dc

does anybody know how I can convert the power from an alternator to dc without using a 12v car battery? By the way this alternator is not in a car.

have to use an invertor. You can hook those direct to you alternator,, but because of no battery,, its going to put out FULL charge at all times. Which shortens the life of the alternator. Can you find an old generator from a truck or something. No converting needed with those. I built a small generator with an alternator once,, using a battery and a invertor,, then found a generator,, works great

If this is an alternator from a car it is 12v d.c. already the battery is just a place to store excess power, if the alternator is from some other application you may need a rectifier to change the a.c. to d.c. and a transformer to get 12v....................JAY

Evan, would you like to describe your application? There are a number of possible issues here.

As pointed out on another thread you are dealing will voltage and amps, especially amps, that can KILL you. If you don't know what you are doing, go to you local library and study the subject (at least the basic concepts).
