Madden on Daunte

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Purple : One Thread

I live north of Philly so I hear a lot from both the New York and the Philly media. Yesterday afternoon, John Madden was on the Mike and the Mad Dog show (hugely popular in the area) on WFAN. Francesa asked Madden about all the young QB's in the league, and what he thought of them. It seems that everybody has jumped on the McNabb bandwagon, but Madden said of all of them, he'd take Culpepper, INCLUDING Peyton Manning. It seems that the young QB discussion inevitably has McNabb and Culpepper leading, always in that order, but I am not entirely convinced that McNabb is a "QB" yet. If you look at how the Giants beat them three times last year, it was by making him stay in the pocket and beat him with the arm. Everybody loves McNabb's ability to run, but I wonder what most LB's, corners and safeties would say about which of them they'd rather have to take on one on one in an open field?

Daunte gets no props. McNabb is good, Manning is better, Culpepper is the best of them all. Not only is McNabb getting too much respect but so is his team. Am I the only one who thinks that the Eagles and Saints both played last place scheds last season, and are going to stumble having to play the big boys week in and week out this year?

I think the Rams, Vikes, Buccs, Begrudginly the Pack and the Giants will all wind up in the playoffs at seasons end. They have all been there, done that and I see no reason why they can't do it again. The last spot will probably be snagged by some upstart playing a weak schedule like the Falcons, Niners, Cards or Lions.
