A Question For You Legal Beagles

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unk's Wild Wild West : One Thread

Today's news reports have Danny Almonte (14 year old, 12 year old) in the process of being registered for school in the Bronx. How can this be?

He and his father have been proven to be in this country illegally so wouldn’t it stand to reason that they would be deported? Why is this ‘illegal alien’ allowed to register for school in the U.S.?

Who should wonder why our public school systems have turned into intellectual sewers.

Just

He's 14. He's illegal.

Probably the most disturbing story I've heard of this year. One day I was in awe (and a little doubtlful) and the next I was furious!

My boy throws 65mph (EASY) from 46 feet at 12 years old. He turned THIRTEEN on 8/30 and we're starting to pitch from 60ft now. That 65 mph fastball just dropped to 50mph and is more like batting practice than a LLWS record.

His dad is shit and nothing more......

Totally agree Deano but what about him being allowed to stay here and register for school? To me, that is the bigger crime as it thumbs a nose at our immigration laws.

WTFIGO?

Just

Totally agree!!! That boy has been on easy street (the last couple years) before I even found the intersection!! I don't know that I have ever been this upset over anything in baseball other than Pete Rose getting banned fom the Hall of Fame (he has more base hits than God!).

They both should be deported and his daddy should serve a lil' time in the slammer.

CHEATING SUCKS ON EVERY LEVEL!

You guys would go completely nuts if you lived in SoCal.

Amazes that you're so out of touch. The Little League flap is over but the genesis that brought it is blooming wild. You wern't listening.

Rules are rules unless you have an ever growing segment that brings their own and then the rules change. The migration game is over and if you left in the second inning you're to blame.

Nothing really surprises me as far as Little League anymore. Wasn't the coach involved in some violations in prior tournaments? You would think that League officials would really scrutinize someone who had already had a history of violating some very clear cut and simple rules.

BTW Deano, welcome to the Big Leagues. That extra 14 feet makes a big difference. I wouldn't let my son pitch this year against the 15 year olds it would have been a disaster. We are working to get him on the mound next season.

I guess my reaction to the kid being enrolled in school is that at least maybe some good will come of this and he will get an education. As far as this illegal immigrant stuff, like Carlos is trying to say (I think) why worry about these two, the country is being overwhelmed and I don't think there is much anyone can due to stem the tide much less reverse it.

Nothing is illegal, and what is considered illegal, there will be a way to find it legal. Therefore, nothing is illegal. Hire a lawyer and make him/her famous and you'll get off Scott free. Sounds rational to me.

"I don't think there's much anyone can do to stem the tide much less reverese it."

Well said Thug. The body flow has become glacial but preserving certian instutional values are still within our grasp. More, they're valuable to our new brothers whether they yet realize it or not. It's a kind of goofy game like not letting your kid brother ruin your best bat by sockin rocks. They're here. Our job is to teach 'em not to sock rocks.

Carlos my friend, who might the ‘our’ be? Are you possibly referring to the United States Government, that for decades has been unable to enforce or equitably modify the immigration laws already in place? Surely you wouldn’t trust the difficult chore of proper bat usage to these people, would you? So then, who are the ‘our’ that will accomplish this feat?

Take your time….I’ve still got a few years left to hear the answer.

I pray that my children and grandchildren experience this positive solution.

Just ready where Danny ACTUALLY attended school for the 1st time in the US yesterday.

His mom was quoted as saying, "We had to commit this little fraud to give this opportunity to this child. As Latinos, we don't always have the opportunity to participate in a competition as important as this one."

So just LIE and take that same opportunity away from a deserving child?? Makes me sick to my stomach......
