Firewall Question

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unk's Wild Wild West : One Thread

Hi. I have ZoneAlarm and for the past few days it keeps going off alot. I dont mean to sound to computer dense, but can some here offer up why this happens? Does it mean someone is trying to hack into my puter? Why also does it display ISP's?

Thanks.

Here is the message I just recently received:

The firewall has blocked internet access to your computer (HTTP) from 172.136.26.185 (tcp Port 3504)

Another one was 172.180.139.95 (tcp Port 27374)

when I hit more info I get Microsoft internet site.

Thanks Mr. Patton, can you translate for me? :-0

AOL was pinging you so they could see your cookies. That way they know what kind of crap you like. You will be inundated with spam email from people they sell your profile to.

As you were

I have the same product. I was mildly alarmed at first, but reading through the explanations I calmed down. The alerts are nearly all harmless internet "Noise". Many times it is a server from another site looking to see if you are still hooked onto that site.

Smooth move, uncle boob you asshole.

now everyone knows her ip

(but nobody cares)

'Sumer: I use ZoneAlarm, as well, but there's no sense getting the messages. I remember spending a few days [when I first installed it] allowing the messages to be displayed and doing the WHOIS on the ISP's, etc. I even wrote E-mails to those in charge of the domains involved, informing them of what their users were doing. Then I decided that I'd spent enough time playing "detective" and "rat." Just turn off the messages and let ZoneAlarm do its job. It's not like it's important to know that someone in Malaysia has been "pinging" your PC. What's important is that ZoneAlarm didn't allow them access.

Ah I dont care if nobody knows my ISP, it was probably my fault for posting the alarm message to begin with. I was just curious. It has been happening alot lately, and just wonderin what it meant. Thanks nita. nice to know someone cares enough to ping me. lol.

Sumer, it must be working. Lately I can't hack into your email anymore. Dang, that was some juicy stuff!

FS, are you back?

-- Lars (lars@indy.net), September 02, 2001.

lars:

The Full moon is Pisces today gave me a special call to come back to the community. Pisces is the natural ruler of the 12th house-the house of the collective soul or the collective unconscious. Being ruled by Neptune in turn, the Pisces spirit asks us to come together, merge, and understand one another as part of a symbiotic, not parasitic mode.

That being said, It seemed proper to ride in on the same wave as Sumer today.

FS, welcome back. Fair warning, it's as squirrely as ever.

Cin-

-- FutureShock (gray@matter.think), September 03, 2001.

I have this incredible urge to yell: MRS. FUTURESHOCK!!! CIN JUST SMOOCHED YOUR HUSBAND!!! But I won't else Cherri calls me a tattle- tale and lord knows Carlos and Z will either shoot me or run me over.

Welcome back FutureShock. We've been waiting for you.

Debra:

I have felt badly that I did not post about the March in April for women's rights. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend as Mrs. FutureShock was preparing for a trial and I was helping her do some of the grunt work. My apologies as I believe I said I would post something on it.

As I said to Lars, I will try to contribute in the way I can be of most service; Proselytizing and/or railing at ignorance have been eliminated from my repertoire.

They wore you out too?

-- Jack Booted Thug (governmentconspiracy@NWO.com), September 03, 2001.

Lars, you got me laughing so hard I got tears going on.

Not to disappoint, but my email is as boring as my workflow. :-)
