Noah, where art thou?

And it came to pass in those days, that a great darkness was loosed upon the land. And the bruised and jealous skies held back both sun and star. For seven days and seven nights fell the waters collected from the seas and deserts; for seven days and seven nights Heaven’s flood fell upon the ground.

And the Bayou was swollen with rebellion. Freed from the tyranny of channels and bankments, it danced and laughed over the fields and roads of men. It ate with greed and abandon the crops birthed and nourished with the sweat of men. It rolled with lover’s passion through the dwellings and stilled the hearts of men.

And the beasts of the field, the crawling things and howling things of the land, were sent from lair, from hole and warren. The beasts of the air, the feathered things, the flying things, were abandoned by the firmness of ancient soils, and the growing things, the bearded grey and the green things toppled into the water’s merciless embrace.

And the beasts of the field and the birds of the air fled or sheltered or died among the water’s sound, but the men were seduced by the singing Bayou. They huddled in darkened beds and listened in their sleep to the falling whispers. They woke to new intimacy of rising waters and gazed upon a world swirling with fluid landscapes; a world made anew by it’s own course of days.

Did I mention that it has rained a little bit, down here lately? Katy and the cats are being VERY affectionate and sincere in their attempts to spend quality time with us (in the house). The road is under water about 50 yds. down from us, and a low place up the street is threatening to likewise seal us off altogether.

AND IT’S STILL COMING DOWN!

Lon: I wouldn't worry too much about all the rain unless you see two of every kind of animal lining up outside your door! Of course, I'm high and dry here in Okieland-we haven't quite forgotten what rain looks like...

Linda, as a matter of fact, there's two cats waiting at my front door right now. Oh, look, they're my own sweet little kitties, Charlie and Allie. How cute! And I didn't even know that they could swim.

I guess I'll go get a dip net and let the little darlings in for their breakfast.

Oh, blue skies,........ nuttin' but blue skies...............headin' my way.

For the first time in 9 days, there's a patch of blue sky over my house. Ain't it pretty, kinda azure with clear deep sunshine. See it? It's right there by that cloud. That big cloud. That big black cloud. That HUGE BLACK ANGRY-LOOKIN' cloud.

Was that thunder?

--------------------- Just keeping y'all posted...... I wonder where Gayla is.......

It's not raining just now, but the bayou is rising fast. It's actually the highest I've seen it, and within about 50' of my driveway entrance. I went down to the other place (you know, the one where I want to build next year), and the entire thing was about 3 feet under water. I had to tie my two propane tanks to trees to keep them from floating off. Even a full tank will float in about 4 feet of water. The old house down there was built pretty high, so it's got to come up another foot before I have to start moving things out that I have stored.

We are so close to the ocean that normally rain doesn't affect the bayou so much. It takes a storm surge to really flood the wetlands. But we had so much in the last week that it just can't handle the volume and it's still raining more inland, so more water to come. Ain't it fun?

Lonster,

I think it behooves you to choose a spectacular trident {from ebay, of course} for your Master of the New Digs ensemble.

Gayla picked a good time to leave Houston, but a bad time to visit Glacier National Park. With 43,000 acres burning, they could have used that rain. It didn't affect us too much, though. The park was gorgeous! :-) I'm in Idaho today, near the Wyoming border. We're heading off to see the Grand Tetons. I hope Houston is recovering!

Lon, move to higher ground...like maybe several hundred miles inland.

Sheesh, Lon! Got pontoons?

Here's hoping you don't really need 'em!!!
