IHC passenger cars

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

I bought a set of ACL heavyweight passenger cars today. It is a nice set. I am sure they are not exactly proto typical but they give a flavor of the ACL on the layout. The purple is very close to the purple of a proto 2000 E6 or E7 model. The E8 model is more of a lavender which seems to be incorrect. I was wondering if anyone has seen these heavyweight passenger cars I have and what was your impression. Also is the Badger paint the Society sells the closest match to ACL purple on the market. Other companys sell ACL purple but I am not sure if they are correct in there shade of purple. I am looking to paint some passenger cars. Thanks.

I just bought the IHC orange blossom special cars. They are also worth the money. The IHC sale will be over at the end of February. They are 7.99 a piece. I doubt if anyone other company is going to make these cars. Good bang for the buck.

Mark, thanks for the tip. Gotta run...I feel Purchase Mode coming on!

Jim, regarding the IHC heavyweights for ACL, I just ordered and received three of them. No, they don't match any specific ACL prototypes, but I believe the purple is correct and the lettering and color scheme are correct....the yellow stripes look a bit beige, but hey....I'm going weather them anyway...they will need some weight added as they are a bit light. The cars overall make a nice appearance, and best of all they are currently $7.99 a piece on the IHC website/magazine advertisement. With S/H, to get these nice cars in the correct livery for under $10 a piece is a pretty good deal, particularly on my beer modelling budget!

Jim, do not use the Polly Scale ACL Purple....this is the lighter 'lavender' shade...could be used for some faded depots, but certainly not for newer equipment. The ACL Purple sold by the society is the best match around.
