Please help ! Avermedia TVCam98 Sound Problem

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I want to capture home video using VirtualDub or AVIedit as I can capture and save this in a compressed (Mpeg1, or DVX4) format in real-time. I'm using a P3 550Mhz, and 383MgB Ram, Avermedia TVCam98 capture device and RipTide Master sound card.

However, I can only capture video and no sound even in preview. Using Avermedia's own software I get both fine, but can only capture to AVI.

On my RipTide Master I have adjusted the volume controls and ensured the Recording and Playback are checked for Line In; and Master Volume is unchecked for Mute.

I know the sound is there because : 1) I can view and capture sound & video when using Avermedia s/ware 2) if I unplug the Line In cable on the sound card whilst playing the video using Avermedia software the sound is cut off so the Avermedia card is reading sound direct into the soundcard, 3) When I replug in the Line In cable, and start Avermedia and start the Sound Recorder I can record the audio.

I have also downloaded QuickMix to save the Master Volume, Recording and all Wave settings whilst using Avermedia; then load up VirtualDub, reload these QuickMix settings and .... still no audio !

Can some expert here please assist ??

Very many thanks,

Roger

Video for Windows only can capture audio from the line-in of your sound card. Hence, if you try to capture withe the native software of the avermedia, you will get audio, because no VFW routines are used at all. But if you try to capture the audio/video stream from another software, like VirtualDub, you have to put the audio in through the line-in socket of your sound carg.

Hope this helps.
