Teachers found a juvenile wearing an old tee shirt with the initials TK in the collar, written by laundry marker, crying hysterically before school started this morning. When the Teachers succeeded in getting the child to the nurse's office, they were able to detect only the following words repeated constantly, "no more Mr. Rogers, no more Mr. Rogers".

This is the first known reaction to the Network News broadcasts early this morning that the Award Winning Program, "Mr. Roger's Neighborhood" would no longer be a live program.

Behavioural Scientists had predicted that small children who heard the Network News might misinterpret the reports and conclude that the Beloved Fred Rogers had died.

Working with reporters and the Teachers, Rogers spoke to the child and kept repeating, "Now remember, you are one of a kind and very special. There is only one you."

The child seemed calmer after the phone call from Rogers but the nurse's office will issue another report later today.

The child TK, who over reacted quite badly to reports of the end of Fred Rogers' Live program was taken home after his mother was reached at the Lonely Sparrows Trailer Park by Child Protective Services.

The mother seemed quite shaken by the episode and stated to the Teachers and Nurses, "I am so sorry. I don't know what gets into this child. He has been a problem at home since before he was born but this is the first time he has been bad outside the Park. I got him a computer with that nice AOL on it for him to play with and he seems to be finding all sorts other bad little children there."

"You may be sure he will be properly whipped for this and I am taking away his keyboard until Tuesday to see if that helps."

Background Story on cause of TK's break down

-- Anonymous, August 31, 2001

“Very young children need to know what’s real and what’s pretend,” Rogers said. “For instance, I remember one time seeing a cartoon in which a diver went to the bottom of a lake and pulled out a plug, and all the water went down the drain at the bottom of that lake, and it finally sucked down the boats that were in the lake, it sucked down the trees that were on the banks and then it started sucking down the houses.”
For young children who feared being sucked down the drain each time they took a bath, Rogers said, such a cartoon could be quite frightening.
Rogers addressed that fear with his song “You Can Never Go Down the Drain.” That and other songs, known for their simple messages, are one of Rogers’ trademarks and have become standards for the legions of young fans who grew up with them.
