SVCD on Philips 710?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have a philips DVD 710. My problem is that I can't play SVCDs. A friend of mine also has the 710 but he can play all the movies that I can't. I upgraded my firmware to the latest 9.28 but that didn't help. So... why can my friend play them but not me? When i insert a SVCD the player eject the disc.

Philips DVD 710 is compatible with CD-R, CD-RW, SVCD, HQ-VCD etc. and you should be having no problems. I guess ..you need to clean the laser eye of your DVD.. or probably has got mis-aligned due to shock or vibrations. Be careful about the cleaning. Unless you are a techie..don't try it yourself....it could cause more damage.

hi, if you've got an old firmware or a RC-2 SVCD support is off. just use the region hack to change to RC-1 and try. if it doesn't work you might need the firmware update

Hi,

I've got exactly the same probleme. I've upadated my player with 9.28 firmware, but the SVCD is still ejected. I've got the same problem with two different Philips 710 players.

Ditto. I've also got 9.28 firmware and my player has been region freed. But it just spits out SVCDs created by Nero/TMPGenc. Maybe only US players can do it, or those set to R1 ? (mine was UK R2)

I had the same problem with a Philips DVD930 R2 UK player and have 9.23 firmware.

Before it would play SVCD's I had to use an RC6 code (from a Palm) and send a "P" code sequence to make the player think it is a Philips Magnavox player.

I don't have the details at hand but if you email me, I can send you them.

Hi, my philips DVD 710 (german version RC-2) was updated to the highest sofware version 9.28 plus hardware regio-hack and also eject the SVCDs. Changing the regiocode to RC-1 helped. The SVCD-feature was "on" as the DVD 710 was selled as a "MAGNAVOX" Device (outside the regio 2).

The 710 can play svcd only in region 1 mode, so you have to use the remote to change the region to 1. Then you can use the oneforall code to remove region code. But remember that it will play svcd only if you switch to region 1 before you remove the region code.

Have fun

the only way i no is to switch to p code 9 and then make the player codefree and svcd works

On the plus side, the player can play DVD+R and DVD+RW.

Try using P-Code 11

Make sure that no cd is in the tray and then press: play 1 5 9 011000000000 play (The last "0" is not being displayed")

Follow exactly what hokie (myself) posted on:

www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdhacks.php?select=Philips+DVD+710

and you should be ok! My player is working great since then. It is now Region Free and reads SVCD perfectly! Just be carefull about the links posted as they have a mistake... a space after the slash... but if you remove that space they are still active as in 2002 and should be like follows:

www.ianc.net/philips/downloads.shtml www.geocities.com/lajoliepagedelapin/p-codes.htm

Good luck
